“POWER OF DISCIPLINE”
One of the keys to creating the life you want—a “successful life”–is DISCIPLINE. There comes a time when you have to discipline yourself in the things of God; in order for you to go higher with Him and move to the next level in your journey to success. Renewing your mind is the pathway to success. When we change our perspective; our life changes. Meditation is the key to renewing your mind. The word Renew is defined as “to make new or to restore to its original state.” When you renew your mind, your understanding of life will be enhanced and the way you operate in it; will change.
Romans 12:2 Passion Translation–tells us: Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.
God wants us to be a positive influence in the lives of others; by demonstrating His CHARACTER. We are not to be easily moved by our circumstances. The way to avoid anything that would hinder your progress in life–is to STAND IN FAITH and REMAIN POSITIVE. Refuse to hold onto old attitudes, and turn away from pride and fear. As you renew your mind; your faith is built up and you can achieve more than you could ever imagine!
This book of the law shall not depart out of my mouth; but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do all that is written in it: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.
Ephesians 3:20 Passion Translation
Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.
By renewing our minds and changing our perspective we gain a fresh understanding of God’s Word, His ways, and His Victory.
Let’s take a closer look at the “key of discipline”: Discipline, in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is defined as “training that corrects, molds, or perfects mental faculties or moral character.” Discipline is the foundation for your success. Discipline sets things in motion. Reaching your destiny requires discipline and developing right habits. It takes commitment and consistent effort on our part.
The Plan For A Disciplined Life: We are His disciples on the earth. Jesus is the model for a disciplined life. A disciple is a follower of Christ, someone who learns His way of doing things. Therefore, we are to follow Jesus example.
Four areas of which Jesus exercised discipline:
- A disciplined PRAYER LIFE.
Mark 1:35 describes Jesus prayer life: “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
Mark 6:46 says, “And when He has sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.”
Jesus had contact with the Father. He prayed regularly. He took time to receive the Father’s instructions and impartation for the day so people’s lives would be changed. Everything Jesus did, all that He spoke, the miracles he performed–was activated by the power of prayer. We too, must make prayer a part of our day, every day. That’s discipline!
2. Disciplined in your thought life and emotions. Jesus never let His emotions get out of control. He never yielded to the devils suggestions because He was disciplined in His thoughts and feelings. Practice love and have a mindset that is aligned with God.
Jesus disciplined His emotions in the Garden of Gethsemane, even though He was depressed and disturbed; emotional–He had control over His emotions when He said; “Father, if you be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). Jesus trained Himself to be disciplined in His thoughts and emotions.
3. Disciplined in studying and meditating the word. Jesus had to study and meditate on the word, just as we do. The word has to be such a part of you; that when you speak–something happens immediately. This type of power does not happen without discipline:
Psalm 119:97-100 Passion Translation
[Describes the power of disciplining yourself in the word!]
O, how I love and treasure the revelation of your word; throughout the day I fill my heart with it’s light! By considering your commands I have an edge over my enemies, for I take seriously everything you say. You have given me more understanding than those who teach me, for I’ve absorbed your eye-opening revelation. You have graced me with more insight than the old sages because I have not failed to walk in the light of your ways.
Jesus was committed to meditating on the word and being a student of the word. He was teachable! His discipline and hunger for the word of truth and the things of God continued through His teenage years and into adulthood.
4. Disciplined in speech. Jesus had control over His mouth. He only spoke what He heard His Father speak (John 12:50). Jesus always answered His critics with the Word of God. He knew the power of His words and was disciplined in His speech.
Be encouraged to follow Jesus’ example in these four areas in order to “Create the Life You Want”! To live a powerful, disciplined, and successful life. If we can commit to disciplining ourselves in prayer, meditating the word, and have control over our speech–we will begin to see negative situations and circumstances turn around in our life.
