Where do your thoughts lie? Is it in negative thinking or positive thinking? Do we see ourselves growing and excelling in the dreams and desires put in our hearts by God? Are you thinking about all the problems in the world or in your life right now? Maybe you are imagining or dreaming about owning your own business or taking a trip or going for a new job offer? At times; so many of these thoughts, concerns, and questions run through our minds–causes us to wonder of the possibilities, potential or power we hold that lie within us. One thing is for certain; that if we are not careful–and let our minds run away with us, it could overwhelm and consume you to the point where worry, stress and burdens begin to take hold of you. Your mind can be a “Beautiful Thing” when you have accepted the Truth of God’s Word. God created us with inspiration! He imagined us; it was a thought–then He spoke into existence–and so it was! [Genesis 1]
We have within us the ability to “create”, to dream, and to imagine! It’s up to you and I; what we will do with the thoughts and desires that have been planted in us. We can choose to think good thoughts, surround ourselves with positive–uplifting influences and acquaintances and keep watch over our thoughts by learning how to discipline our minds.
*Genesis 1:1 (Definition)–The word create, bara’ (bah-rah): Means; to form or fashion, to produce, to create. “Creating is similar to sculpturing”. The word bara’ describes God creating and sculpting; by bringing into existence and fashioning us into something new (vs.27).
God calls us; “His GOOD Soldiers”–Let’s look further into the Word; on how it teaches us to “discipline our minds.” Here are some scriptures to ponder and will help us to understand; why it is important to keep our minds and thinking under control. You may be realizing that sometimes the biggest battle; goes on in the mind (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). We are encouraged to pull down strongholds and vain imaginations of the mind. We have been given the power and authority to gird up the loins of our mind, and win the battle!
1 Peter 1:13-16 Passion Translation
So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you. As God’s obedient children, never again shape your lives by the desires that you followed when you didn’t know better. Instead, shape your lives to become like the Holy One who called you. For Scripture says: “You are to be holy, because I am holy.”
Our minds are to be kept on the Word; in order for it to be transformed; and fashioned into the positive way of life that God has in mind for us. The words “gird up the loins of your mind” are pictured as a runner; running a race. To run freely and without hinderance: the Greek translation is referring to a runner that describes Orientals who wore long robes–that before taking long journeys or running a race, they would gather up their loose robes and tuck them up under their girdle. They literally reach down to gather the long dangling ends of their robes and tuck them under their belt. With loose ends out-of-the-way, they are able to run freely and without distractions. The thought we are shown in this analogy refers to our minds and not the garment–we are encouraged to keep our minds and hearts with all diligence; by following these instructions:
- Take care of the loose ends that exist in the mind and emotions.
- Correct parts of the thinking that we know are wrong.
- Grab hold of the dangling areas of our thinking; and put them away from us.
- Remove them by the Authority of the Word of God!
When we actually apply and follow these steps; we are choosing to not allow things to exist in our lives that would hinder a succesful journey with God. We also need help from the Holy Spirit; to not be conformed to the patterns of the world system; but instead; allow ourselves to be transformed by the “renewing of our mind”…..the word “transformed” is taken from the Greek word which means “metamorphosis.”
Metamorphosis is what takes place when a caterpillar changes into a butterfly. A complete transformation takes place during a metamorphosis. In the transforming of our minds–the metamorphosis–our spirit was recreated by God. When you are born-again; God places His spirit in you. He puts His life and nature within you, and you become a NEW creation in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17). Although are spirits have been recreated; we must continue to renew our thinking. The Word of God will transform your thoughts, to think positively and to think the way God thinks.
Romans 12:2 Passion Translation
Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you,
but be inwardly transformed by the Holy spirit through a total reformation
of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will
as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in His eyes.
As “good soldiers of the Lord Jesus Christ; we are to be spiritually minded–refusing to war according to the flesh. His purpose becomes our purpose in life. The purpose of God’s calling on your life is to allow Jesus to use you. God wants you and I— to use our imagination in an awe-inspiring way. Whatever we feed our minds on–whether good or bad, positive or negative, faith or fear determines what you will paint your canvas with.
“A painter is given a canvas and the brushes; but the outcome of a picture or scene is only determined by what kind of paint he is given.” Your imagination creates scenes and images on the canvas of your soul, the mind. Therefore, our minds must be disciplined and renewed by putting on the mind of Christ. Our imagination is a “powerful tool!”
God designed your imagination as a tool to create His images inside you; as you meditate the word. The word brings life, it inspires and it causes you to dream outside of your own natural thinking. He wants you to SEE yourself as He SEES you! He sees you healed! He sees you prosperous! He sees you successful! He wants for each of us to go after the bigger plan he has in store for us. God sees you as an OVER-COMER in this life! He is on your side! He loves you and has the best in mind for you.
As we discipline our minds in the Word of God we can see ourselves the way God sees us. We will see ourselves successful, and accomplishing our goals, dreams and visions. Whether you are aspiring to be a successful business owner, entrepreneur, a better home-maker, spouse, or care-giver–it doesn’t matter where you are in life or how old you are. You can accomplish your dreams and use the gifts and talents He put on the inside of you! Stop making excuses and allow God to use you for His glory! Do not accept defeat, stay on guard and gird up the loins of your mind. Take your stand and put on the whole armor of God and use the weapons God gives you. You are called to be a VICTORIOUS soldier of the Lord Jesus; and you can take your stand by using the Name of Jesus, the Blood of Jesus, the Word of God, praying in tongues, the gifts of the Spirit and praise and worship. Maintain your stance by living from a place of Victory over the battle in your mind. Remember the mind is a “Beautiful thing” so let your thoughts be pleasing to God and use it to start creating and imagining great and wonderful things for your life’s purpose and journey!
Psalm 139:13-18 Passion Translation
You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place; carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something. You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book. Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore! When I awake each morning, you’re still thinking of me.
